Join us to welcome riders at Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens as they have a cuppa coffee at the checkpoint.
2021 marks the 81st running of The Sunbeam Motorcycle Club’s Pioneer Run®. Similar in style to the Veteran Car Club’s ‘London to Brighton Run’ for old cars, the Pioneer, is in fact, an earlier event, having been run more or less continually from 1930.
’The Pioneer ‘ route starts at Epsom's Tattenham Corner and runs down through Reigate, skirting Gatwick Airport, and continuing via Handcross, Plummers Plain and Lower Beeding where machines stop at Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens for a welcome cup of coffee.
This will be an ideal place to view the veteran motorcycles and three-wheelers, none of which are less than 105 years old!
Around 300 of these venerable machines, some from the dawn of the internal combustion engine, will pause at Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens for adjustments, possible refuelling, topping up of oil tanks and taking on much-needed refreshments.
Having stamped their cards at the checkpoint, the run progresses via Henfield, Small Dole and finally to the finishing point on Brighton City Airport at Shoreham.
The earliest dated machines leave Epsom at 08.00 and are dispatched at timed intervals according to age - expect to see machines arriving at Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens from around 09:00 - 11:00.
We know that the Sunbeam Motor Cycle Club is delighted to be using the beautiful setting of Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens as a checkpoint - we, for our part, look forward to welcoming them.
