About Sarah Gardener
Sarah has had a broad background in art and design and in the education sector and have had the experience of running a craft business. Craft has all ways been an interest of mine. She has been practicing basketry for around 10 years now and have been teaching for around 7 years.
She loves to show people how use their hands and to succeed in making something they can enjoy and use. The rhythm of weaving willow and making can be an immersive and be a pleasurable experience which people can enjoy.
Being a gardener at Leonardslee and in private gardens feeds into my basketry practice. She grows willow and harvest stock every year which keeps her in touch with the materials that she uses. Sarah source stock from growers in Somerset when needed. Knowing where the willow has been grown is important to her. Sarah just love to make with natural materials in the end that will wave no trace and if looked after can survive for decades.
Willow is such fantastic versatile plant. She is pretty sure most people have a basket of some kind in there home.
Most of my courses are geared towards people making a particular product. Where students can learn certain basketry skills to complete there object. All materials and tools are provided. Any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
